In ancient times, the Lebanese mountains were covered with cedars and aromatic trees. The country was known as a paradise.
The wood of Lebanon cedars was widely used by Phoenicians to build vessels. This tree is repeatedly mentioned in the Bible as a symbol of force and immortality, which is why it can be seen on the Lebanese flag.
Despite the historical and cultural significance of Lebanon cedars, woodlands and forests of cedars were highly devastated and nowadays are very rare in Lebanon.
